San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office Secures Conviction in Stockton Murder Case

The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office and DA Ron Freitas, announce that Laonard Alexander, a 45-year-old Stockton resident, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Tyrique Harris outside Golden 1 Credit Union on Pacific Avenue. Alexander was also found guilty of a firearm enhancement under Penal Code 12022.53(d), which significantly increases his potential sentence.

On August 11, 2022, at approximately 10:48 AM, officers from the Stockton Police Department were dispatched to Golden 1 Credit Union in response to a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Harris suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and face. Despite their efforts, Mr. Harris succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Video surveillance from the bank revealed that Alexander and Mr. Harris had a brief physical altercation in the parking lot before the shooting. Following the altercation, Mr. Harris retreated to the bank's side, while Alexander entered the bank, completed a transaction, and then drove away. However, Alexander returned, driving past the victim twice before parking his vehicle behind the bank. He then approached Mr. Harris from behind and shot him six times before fleeing the scene.

The shooting occurred in broad daylight while the bank was open, filled with customers and employees.

The case was thoroughly investigated by the Stockton Police Department and skillfully prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Kathy Murray. The trial was held before the Honorable Judge Orcutt.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 21, 2024, when Alexander faces 50 years to life in prison.

District Attorney Ron Freitas expressed his gratitude to all those involved in bringing this case to a successful conclusion. "This senseless act of violence has no place in our community. Thanks to the dedicated work of the Stockton Police Department, our office, the outstanding prosecution by DDA Kathy Murray, and the careful oversight of Judge Orcutt, justice has been served for Tyrique Harris and his family."
