San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announces that two individuals from Stockton have been found guilty of multiple homicides that occurred in 2017.
On May 24, 2024, at the San Joaquin County Courthouse, a jury found Jesus Alberto Martinez, 26, and Salvador Vega, 34, guilty of multiple shootings that resulted in the deaths of three victims.
In 2017, Martinez and Vega attempted to kill Salvador Gonzalez-Romero in his Stockton home and at his girlfriend’s home. The defendants were involved in at least four separate shootings from August 9, 2017, to October 21, 2017. During the attempts, Daniel Ibarra, 18, and Briana Ballesteros, 18, were killed. Ibarra was a friend of Gonzalez-Romero and Ballesteros was dating Gonzalez-Romero.
Martinez and Vega were found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, and multiple murders with special circumstances.
Vega was also found guilty of his involvement in a separate burglary during the timeline of the shootings that resulted in the death of Neftali Gonzalez, 60.
Freitas expresses gratitude for the collaboration and efforts of the Stockton Police Department, and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
“This verdict further shows our commitment to protecting people from any perpetrators who spread violence and terror in our community,” Freitas said. “Special thanks are also due to Detective Salvador Gomez with the Stockton Police Department and our Deputy District Attorney Alexander Henry who worked tirelessly to secure justice in this case.”
