San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas announces today’s arraignment of 18-year-old Anthony Pontod of Stockton at the San Joaquin County Courthouse, who was formally charged with murder, attempted murder, and various gun charges.
On September 25, 2023, the Stockton Police Department responded to reports of shots fired near N Center St and Channel St at around 4:34 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two males ages 15 and 16 suffering from gunshot wounds.
One teen, 15-year-old Angelo Rivas Jr. was pronounced dead on scene, and the 16-year-old male victim was treated at an area hospital. Both victims were students at Franklin High School.
Detectives continued their investigation and arrested Pontod on March 6, 2024, in connection to the homicide.
Pontod remains booked at the San Joaquin County Jail pending further arraignment on March 25 at 8:30 a.m. in department 8B at the San Joaquin County Courthouse.
The honorable Villapudua set Pontod’s bail at NO BAIL.
"Violence has no place in our community, and my Office takes a firm stance against it, especially when it involves youth. We are dedicated to ensuring those who commit such acts are held accountable and prosecuted with the seriousness it deserves, always with the goal of maintaining peace and safety for all,” said Ron Freitas.
