Today, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors recognized the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, Stockton Police Department, and the American Red Cross for their combined efforts in hosting the “Battle of the Badges” Blood Drive.

The “Battle of the Badges” Blood Drive took place in the District Attorney’s Office Training Room on January 11, 2023 and local law enforcement personnel were invited to donate blood to the local American Red Cross. The initial goal of the event was to book the allotted 28 time slots. In total, 43 members of the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, Bureau of Investigations, Stockton Police Department, and Manteca Police Department participated, nearly doubling the goal. These donations equate to 43 units of blood and potentially 129 lives saved.

“The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive was a testament to the interagency collaboration between my Office and our local law enforcement partners,” said District Attorney Ron Freitas. “I am incredibly proud of Investigator Quiroz for his role in facilitating the Blood Drive, as well as Stockton Police Department Wellness Officer Lizardo and American Red Cross Account Manager Kristen Merrill for partnering with our office to see the drive come to fruition.”

The Stockton Police Officers Association participated in the “Battle of the Badges” Blood Drive in honor of LeeAnn Dias. The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office connected with the American Red Cross to challenge local law enforcement and first responder agencies to assist with the nationwide blood shortage.

The District Attorney’s Office will be partner with the American Red Cross for future drives.
