San Joaquin County Public Works Announces Temporary Marine Traffic Closures and Road Construction During Rehabilitation of Multiple Movable-Span Bridges
September 26, 2024

San Joaquin County, CA - On October 1, 2024, the San Joaquin County Department of Public Works (SJC Public Works) will begin a project to rehabilitate the mechanical and electrical systems on four movable-span bridges in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. This project, designed to extend the service life of these bridges, is expected to be completed by January 31, 2026.

Project Description:
Rehabilitation work will be carried out on the following four movable-span bridges:

  • Bacon Island Road Bridge over Middle River: 14 miles west of the City of Stockton.
  • Tracy Boulevard Bridge over Grant Line Canal: 4.2 miles north of the City of Tracy.
  • Eight Mile Road Bridge over Honker Cut Canal: 4.6 miles west of the City of Stockton.
  • Eight Mile Road Bridge over Bishop Cut: 5 miles west of the City of Stockton.

From October 1, 2024, through January 31, 2025, work will focus on the Bacon Island Road, Tracy Boulevard, and Eight Mile Road (over Honker Cut) bridges. During this period, the three bridges will be closed to marine traffic. Vehicular traffic will be maintained during construction; however, drivers should expect one-lane closures and delays. Construction activities will generally occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional night work. Advance construction message boards will be in place to provide additional details.

Impact on Marine Traffic:
Vessel operators should plan for alternative routes and adjust their schedules accordingly.

Traffic and Construction Schedule:

  • Roadway Access: One lane for two-way traffic will be maintained during construction.
  • Marine Traffic: Bridges under rehabilitation will be closed to marine traffic.
