What:
AgVenture is a free County–sponsored program that seeks to inform and educate youth about agriculture, healthy-living, and local agricultural products. Students spend two hours at the field day interacting with a variety of agriculture displays. These include everything from fruit, vegetables, livestock, farm equipment, mosquito abatement, ag mechanics, youth organizations, pest abatement, law enforcement, and more! These hand-on activities complement and build on virtual content students watch prior to arrival.

Who:
Third graders from Lammersville, Jefferson, Banta, and New Jerusalem unified School Districts, local farmers, and educators.
Why:
With a nearly $3.2 billion farm industry, San Joaquin County is one of the most abundant and diverse agricultural regions in the world. This program brings together government, resource agencies, and private organizations to demonstrate why the sustainability of agriculture is vital to our community, and how each organization plays an important role. The ultimate goal of the program is to help local youth better understand and appreciate the importance of agriculture and nutrition and potentially inspire them to pursue a career in agriculture.
Background:
This is one of four annual events put on by AgVenture program. Classes visit over 40 booths and displays hosted by County businesses and organizations featuring everything from fruit and vegetables to livestock and farm machinery, and distribution of nutritious, locally-produced samples such as nuts and fruit.
In total, approximately 10,000 students, teachers and chaperones are expected to participate in the AgVenture program, which is made possible by the support of over 1,000 volunteers.
