Stockton, CA – San Joaquin County Board Chairman Sonny Dhaliwal issued the following statement about the passing of activist and community leader Dolores Huerta:

“We lost a hero today. Dolores Huerta exemplified bravery, courage, and compassion, dedicating her life to fighting for the rights and dignity of farmworkers and working families. In her younger years, she fought passionately for farm workers’ rights and left a legacy that honors San Joaquin County’s agricultural community and heritage. Once again, later in life, Ms. Huerta gave a voice to the voiceless and stood up for the most vulnerable in society when she revealed she was the victim of sexual abuse. Ms. Huerta faced challenges head-on with grace and dignity. She demonstrated the strength it takes to confront injustice and bring difficult truths into the light. We want to send our deepest condolences to Ms. Huerta’s family and loved ones.”
