Stockton, CA – San Joaquin County heroes will be honored during a special ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. District Four Supervisor Steve Ding and District One Supervisor Mario Gardea invite the community to join them in honoring and showing support for the men and women who have selflessly served our nation.
“25 years have passed since that tragic day, but the importance of honoring our heroes has not diminished,” said Supervisor Ding. “Our promise to never forget means continuing to show our gratitude to those who have bravely served our country and community.”
Marine Sergeant Frank S. Wright will serve as the ceremony’s special guest of honor. At 101 years old, Wright is a World War II veteran who fought in four historic battles in the Pacific: Guadalcanal, New Georgia, Guam and Iwo Jima.
“Frank is a living part of our country’s great history,” said Supervisor Gardea. “He is one of the few remaining links to the Greatest Generation. It is an honor to pay tribute to Frank, whose service and dedication continue to inspire our community today.”
San Joaquin County Sheriff Pat Withrow will also serve as a speaker for the ceremony.
Expected guests and participating agencies to date include American Legion Post 22 of Lodi, California Highway Patrol, Emergency Medical Services, Lodi Fire Department, Montezuma Fire Department, National Guard, REACH Air Medical Services, San Joaquin County Behavioral Health Services, San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services, San Joaquin County Probation Department, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, San Joaquin County Veterans Service Office, Stockton Fire Department, Stockton Police Department, Tracy Police Department, and U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting - Stockton.
The event is free and open to the public to attend.
