Stockton, CA – The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors will welcome two new members on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 10:00 am, as Supervisors-elect Mario Gardea and Sonny Dhaliwal are sworn in to their new offices; Supervisor Robert Rickman will be sworn in to his second term on the Board of Supervisors. The Board will also conduct the annual reorganizational meeting to conduct administrative tasks as the year and term begins.

Supervisor-Elect Mario Gardea was elected to represent the First Supervisorial District in the November 2024 General Election. Gardea is a life-long resident of San Joaquin County. Prior to his election, he served as a firefighter for more than 20 years at the Stockton Fire Department, where he also served as the President of the Stockton Firefighters Association. He is committed to bringing excellence to the basics of local government, including providing safe communities and the repair and maintenance of local roads and sidewalks. He wants to prioritize living wage jobs in the County to ensure that families who live and work in our community can provide for their families.

Supervisor-Elect Sonny Dhaliwal was elected to represent the Third Supervisorial District in the November 2024 General Election. Dhaliwal is a long-time resident of San Joaquin County who immigrated to the United States in 1985. He spent more than twenty years in public service to the City of Lathrop, where he served on the planning commission, city council and as the Mayor for the last 12 years. His focus emphasizes regional solutions for homelessness, prioritizing water resources, enhancing infrastructure, and promoting economic growth. Dhaliwal is committed to ensuring safe communities, quality education, and affordable living are accessible to all residents of San Joaquin County.

Supervisor Robert Rickman was re-elected to serve as the Fifth Supervisorial District representative in the March 2024 Primary Election. Rickman is a third-generation resident of San Joaquin County, who served as the Mayor of the City of Tracy and on the City Council before his election to the Board in 2020. In addition to his elected duties, he also served the community as an officer and sergeant with the California Highway Patrol for more than 25 years before his retirement in 2023. Supervisor Rickman's priorities include addressing the rising cost of living, developing common sense solutions for homelessness, reducing traffic congestion and expanding infrastructure, expanding economic development and opportunity, and ensuring our neighborhoods are safe.

As part of their annual reorganizational meeting on Monday, the Board of Supervisors will elect a Chair and Vice Chair. The Board chairmanship typically rotates between the members of the Board of Supervisors in numerical order. The Chairman of the Board serves as a representative of the Board of Supervisors and San Joaquin County at events throughout the year. Additional responsibilities include conducting all of the board meetings throughout the year and making committee assignments for the Board members on 56 committees that they serve on in the County and community.
