December 30, 2024

Stockton, CA – Chairman Miguel Villapudua issued the following statement on behalf of the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors on news that former President Jimmy Carter died earlier today at his home in Plains, GA at age 100:

“President Jimmy Carter rose from humble beginnings as a farmer to become the 39th President of the United States. His dedication to our nation was clear through his service in the United States Navy, and he was widely known for his deep love of faith, family, and country. After leaving the White House, President Carter continued his life of service, working to ease suffering, especially among the world’s most vulnerable. Through the Carter Center, he set a new standard for post-presidency activism, advancing efforts to educate developing nations, protect democratic institutions, combat rare diseases, and address housing shortages in the United States through his work with Habitat for Humanity. President Carter exemplified the values of public service, compassion, and unwavering faith in both democracy and God. On behalf of the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, I offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to his family and loved ones. We encourage all our residents to reflect on his extraordinary legacy and his example of giving back to both his community and our nation.”
