STOCKTON - At the request of Supervisor Rickman, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors proclaimed October 2024 "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" in San Joaquin County, at their meeting Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
"This disease has afflicted so many of us either directly or indirectly, that I felt the need to ensure that our Board and the County enhance awareness and highlight services available," said Supervisor Robert Rickman.
The American Cancer Society - https://www.cancer.org/ - established Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 1985 to promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer. Between 1989 and 2024 there was a 44% drop-in breast cancer death rates, which is largely attributed to early detection and treatment.
