STOCKTON, CA - Calling all student artists - the Board of Supervisors is holding a public art competition for middle and high school students in San Joaquin County in anticipation of next year's 175th anniversary celebration. Local students in 7th to 12th grade are invited to design and submit a commemorative County logo that will be used in official documents and events throughout 2025. This contest draws inspiration from a 1962 competition which generated the County's current seal, designed by local teen, June Sands of Ripon, as part of a high school art contest.
"We are excited to celebrate the history of San Joaquin County next year," commented Board Vice Chair Paul Canepa. "We are looking to our future leaders to help us do that - the students of San Joaquin County represent our hope for a bright and growing future for our County. This art competition allows us to include their contributions and gives them an opportunity to make some local history as well."
The art competition is open now, and all artwork must be submitted no later than November 8, 2024. The theme for the year is "175 Years of Growing Greatness," and students are asked to design a logo that reflects the rich history, culture, and diversity of San Joaquin County, evoking pride in our county's past while looking forward to its future. Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges and confirmed by the Board of Supervisors at its December meeting.
The guidelines, eligibility criteria, and other additional contest information is available online at https://www.sjgov.link/175logoart.
