City-County Partnership to Improve Local Recreation Options Breaks Ground
July 24, 2024

Stockton, CA - Supervisors Tom Patti and Paul Canepa joined City of Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln and Councilmember Michael Blower at the City of Stockton’s Swenson Park today to break ground on a new option for family fun in the Port City and San Joaquin County. The partnership with Kemper Golf will allow them to build a miniature golf course and an enhanced driving range with state-of-the-art technology for games and skill development on the City Park property. The Board of Supervisors, at their meeting on May 21, 2024, approved funding to help support this venture, to improve quality of life locally with affordable options for family recreation.

“I brought this item to the Board after hearing from many residents about the need for youth activities and family entertainment in our community,” commented Supervisor Tom Patti, Third District. “This joint effort with the County, the City of Stockton, and Kemper Golf is a joint public-private partnership that will improve the quality of life for our residents by creating a winning formula – overall savings for the community and the company by providing public park land – to offer affordable options for local families.”

“Community partnership and collaboration are critical to our success,” added Vice Chair Paul Canepa, Second District. “Having raised my own children here, I know the importance of family activity in our city, and I am proud to partner with my fellow Board members, the City of Stockton and Kemper Golf to expand options for our residents to stay and play here in our community.”

Swenson Park and Golf Course is a local park in the City of Stockton, which offers 27-holes of golf, which includes an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole, Par 3 executive course. They offer driving range practice, golf lessons, Junior Golf Leagues, disc golf and footgolf. The new facility will include 12 hitting bays at the enhanced driving range, adding an interactive and engaging element to traditional driving range practice, making it popular among golfers of all skill levels. The addition will also include a 16,000 sq. ft. miniature golf course for even younger residents to learn the love of the game.

“Partnerships like this, between the City, the County and a great local partner like Kemper Golf, are what makes Stockton the best city in America to live, raise a family, and grow a business,” commented Mayor Kevin Lincoln. “Our youth are our future and our greatest investment. Growing up in Stockton I spent a lot of time with family and friends at Golf Land, Naughty Nick’s, and Hammer Skate, and we often hear our youth asking for fun activities here in town, so this project is something we are all excited to bring to Stockton families."

Kemper Golf estimates that the project will take approximately six months to complete, with an estimated grand opening in early 2025. In addition to the miniature golf and enhanced driving range, the improved facility will host parties and events on site as well.
