AgVenture
AgVenture is a field trip for third graders hosted by the San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner's office. It is held at multiple different locations within San Joaquin county and is free to schools.
AgVenture — An Adventure in Agriculture!
Each year, thousands of third-grade students from across San Joaquin County get a unique opportunity to learn about local agriculture and nutrition and healthy living. From farm machinery and livestock to fresh fruits and vegetables, AgVenture helps kids see, touch, taste, smell and hear agriculture in a way they otherwise would not.
AgVenture aims to:
- Help students understand where food comes from; linking everyday food (milk, fruits, vegetables) to local farms, crops, animals, and the broader agricultural system.
- Promote nutrition awareness and healthy eating by exposing kids to fresh produce and teaching why balanced diets and local food matter.
- Offer hands-on, experiential learning to many students who do not have opportunities to truly experience agriculture. This sensory and interactive approach, which complements school curriculum, has a lasting impact.
- Provide community outreach and connect the younger generation with local agriculture producers, supporting awareness of how farmland and farming support the region's economy.
Whether you're a teacher, parent, farmer, or community member, you can get involved. Contact AgVenture Coordinator, Krista McCoon at sjcagventure@yahoo.com or (209) 402-5734 to learn more about signing up a class, volunteering, or sponsoring.
