Community Development Department

Code Enforcement

What We Do

Code Enforcement investigates complaints received from individual citizens, neighborhood groups, and community groups. Complaints investigated relate to building and land use regulations with an emphasis on ensuring that the integrity of land and building uses are maintained within neighborhoods and communities.

For information regarding abandoned vehicles, please contact the Sheriff's Office.

Most common types of enforcement activities handled by the Community Development Department:

  • Junk and trash on private property
  • Graffiti on private property
  • Non-compliant land uses
  • Non-compliant business
  • Building without a permit
  • Substandard housing / Dangerous buildings

Methods of enforcement:

The following actions do not take place until the notice procedure has been completed. This provides reasonable opportunity to comply with law and code requirements voluntarily, thus avoiding possibly costly legal actions.
