Joint Statement from Chairman Miguel Villapudua and Vice Chair Paul Canepa on Reported Petroleum Spill

Stockton, CA – Board Chairman Miguel Villapudua and Vice Chair Paul Canepa issued the following joint statement on the reported petroleum spill near Smith Canal.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has taken control of the scene and is working with the United States Coast Guard (USCG). CDFW stated that it looks like a command post will be set up with the USCG, which expects to Federalize the incident.

“We are aware of the reported petroleum spill yesterday within the City of Stockton and are in touch with the and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response (CDFW-OSPR). 

The San Joaquin Delta is a vital resource for water and recreation in our community, and we are dedicated to doing all we can to ensure that it is a clean, healthy and safe place to work and play.  We appreciate the deep concern in our community which reflects the importance of the Delta to San Joaquin County. We also appreciate the prompt response of the State and Federal agencies to limit impacts and begin clean up.  As this situation continues to evolve, we will repost and share the data from those agencies to help keep all residents updated as this issue is resolved.”
