Code Enforcement investigates complaints
received from individual citizens, and neighborhood and community groups. Complaints investigated relate to building and land use regulations
with an emphasis on ensuring that the integrity of land and building uses
are maintained within neighborhoods and communities.
Most
common types of enforcement activities handled by the Community
Development Department:
- Inoperative vehicles on private property
- Trash and junk
- Graffiti
- Non-compliant land uses
- Non-compliant business
- Building without a permit
- Substandard housing / Dangerous buildings
Methods
of enforcement:
The following actions do not take place until the 30-day notice procedure has been completed. This provides reasonable opportunity to comply with law and code requirements voluntarily, thus avoiding possibly costly legal actions.
- Referral to District Attorney
- Civil and/or criminal complaint
- Notice of Code Violation recorded with the County Recorder, which encumbers the property.
